Sibgha K asked:

Dulce Et Decorum Est
Bent double, like old beggars under sacks,
Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge,
Till on the haunting flares we turned our backs
And towards our distant rest began to trudge.
Men marched asleep. Many had lost their boots
But limped on, blood-shod. All went lame; all blind;
Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots
Of disappointed shells that dropped behind.

GAS! Gas! Quick, boys!– An ecstasy of fumbling,
Fitting the clumsy helmets just in time;
But someone still was yelling out and stumbling
And floundering like a man in fire or lime.–
Dim, through the misty panes and thick green light
As under a green sea, I saw him drowning.

In all my dreams, before my helpless sight,
He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning.

If in some smothering dreams you too could pace
Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
His hanging face, like a devil’s sick of sin;
If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood
Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,
Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud
Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,–
My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est
Pro patria mori.

The Send-off

Down the close, darkening lanes they sang their way
To the siding-shed,
And lined the train with faces grimly gay.

Their breasts were stuck all white with wreath and spray
As men’s are, dead.

Dull porters watched them, and a casual tramp
Stood staring hard,
Sorry to miss them from the upland camp.
Then, unmoved, signals nodded, and a lamp
Winked to the guard.

So secretly, like wrongs hushed-up, they went.
They were not ours:
We never heard to which front these were sent.

Nor there if they yet mock what women meant
Who gave them flowers.

Shall they return to beatings of great bells
In wild trainloads?
A few, a few, too few for drums and yells,
May creep back, silent, to still village wells
Up half-known roads.

Donald

I know aluminum has gone up in price. I know very little about gutter material. Durability, leaf guards, etc. I am on a limited income, and need the most and best for my few bucks. Thanks Lee

I Want It Now

give me a taste
I want the awful bile
burning my crusty gullet
let me smell the stench
face the fecal realities

show me all Hell’s horror
gutter views as lives pass
bloated penthouse atrocities

shred the ancient wallpaper
no more fingers in dikes
splay and display the Trojan horses

let me see it as it is
all guards dropped now
I’m willing to wallow
ready to pay that damned piper

and when through,
I have but one request

a single rose, please
A white one, thank you.

Oscar

Mario K asked:

There are so many gutter protections on the market today which is the best to keep leaves and debris out of the gutters? I live in the northeast so winters we get a lot of snow and freezing temperatures I don’t want anything that causes icicles.

SOUP asked:

Built a new home. Sump pump use to go off all the time. A few years have past. We built a deck, and installed gutter guards. Now our sump pump does not go off. My question is, does the gutter guards, building of the deck have anything to do with the pump not going off as frequently? Or is the home has settled, therefore, the ground is harder and not as moist?

My neighbors want to clean their gutters. The outsides of them are as black as my Nike’s. I will not clean the eves. Just the gutters around the house.
So how much for…

Jack Hammer asked:

I received an estimate of $9 per foot installed. I was wondering how much the guards themselves cost per foot and how much was labor. Also anyone have this type of guard and are you happy with it or do you think it is a waste of money?

I bought a box of the popular plastic hangers, but they won’t work with my gutters — that have a leaf guard screen attached to them.

I’ve researched and had gutter guards, mesh, etc. I have too many trees; and they need cleaning often in the fall; but it appears their style is fullproof; anyone use them? Are they worth the expense?
