Princess2B asked:

So, I have a very big backyard because I live in the suburbs. It’s Spring and I found a nest on the top of a gutter pipe. This nest had two parents who were Robins and 2 baby birds. They were happy there for a while and neither me or my neighbor (the pipe was between me and my neighbor’s house we have a twin house) disturbed them. But one day, it was before the babies learned how to fly, the nest came down with a thud. It fell down because the nest wasn’t sturdy. The parents were ok and one of the babies were too. But the other baby’s leg is broken. The baby that was ok jumped to my neighbor’s property, and we brought the broken one (with the nest) over to our property, since it was nearest. Now the mom is feeding both of them and taking care of them. When ever the babies call her, she comes right away. Whenever there is danger, the father comes and tweets like crazy. SO, they are surviving. Me and my neighbor are doing everything we can to help them feel comfortable.

But the problem is that there is this cat roaming around at night. Since the birds are sleeping, anything can happen. We keep on trying to be on our guard but what can we do? We don’t know who the cat belongs to, but it looks well fed. We are really scared! We don’t know what to do! Can you help me and give me some tips? I would really like that! :)

i would definetely try using a non toxic cat repellant like orange peels, lavender oil or rosemary around so the cat will stay off your property. You can also buy a non toxic repellant at walmart or lowes. dont use mothballs (toxic) or cayenne pepper like some people suggest. it can get on the cats paws and when they groom it can get into their eyes and be extremely painful. if you have a dog teach him to chase the cat off when it comes around. feral cats will kill prey to eat but housecats that go outdoors occasionally will play and maul the prey until it dies and then they may or may not eat it. it can be stressful to have a heart and try to do the right thing like you and your neighbor, but there is only so much you can do. nature is cruel and beautiful all at the same time. good luck!
