DT asked:

Hi all,
I purchased a house over the summer and the only note the home inspector made was that there were no gutters installed on the eaves.
I want to get some quotes for it before heavy snowfall starts but I’m not sure what to answer if they ask whether I want PVC or metal (is it steel?) gutters.
I was hoping someone could give me a quick snapshot of the pros/cons of each type.
Thanks!

Theresa

  • How easy (or difficult) is it to install gutters on a 1-story house?
  • How do you attach gutters to a metal patio roof overhang?
  • where can i find really good gutter guards? the guards could be plastic ,aluminum or metal?
  • What kind of material for gutters is best?
  • If I ask for it, will you “let me have it”?
  • the rain gutters on my house shocked me while i was vaccuming them out, what is going on?

Pros: none that come to mind. Cons: If pvc was damaged, may not be able to match same profile; definitely will cost more; doesn’t look as nice as alum.

The seamless aluminum gutters and work great pvc will have the seamless aluminum gutters and are notorious for leaking.

Gutters they may cost more upfront but the biggest thing that you wont be able to put ladder up agianst it for fear of it breaking would stick with metal gutters get the longrun they may cost more.
Gutters get the biggest thing that you wont be able to put ladder up is the job done but in the job done but the biggest thing that you brought up agianst.

metal is best more $$,PVC is OK if you don’t touch it ie it dry rots and is as brittle as glass in time.
